Any news about Drishyam 3 is sure to evoke interest on a pan-Indian level with director Jeethu Joseph’s Malayalam franchise, starring Mohanlal, leading to remakes across the country with actors such as Ajay Devgn, Kamal Haasan, Venkatesh and V Ravichandran leading the cast in their respective languages.

Recently, a report from an online media portal, quoted a source close to the Hindi version of the thriller, saying that Jeethu Joseph has already landed on an idea and is working on it, with the Malayalam and Hindi versions planned to be released simultaneously in 2024.

However, a reliable source close to the filmmaker tells OTTplay that there was never a discussion with the director or the producers of the original Malayalam film and the Hindi team about the simultaneous release, and that Jeethu is yet to begin scripting the film.

A source close to the filmmaker tells us, “Jeethu is working on an idea but he hasn’t decided when it’s going on floors or how it will be shot or when it will release. There’s no decision taken on whether all the versions of Drishyam 3 will release together either. The news that came out is fake and none of it has been discussed by Jeethu or the movie’s producers. Only thing I can confirm right now is that Jeethu is working on an idea.”

The report had also stated that the core plot for Drishyam 3 was cracked by Abhishek Pathak, who had helmed the Bollywood remake of Drishyam 2, and his team of writers and they had bounced it off of Jeethu, who apparently loved it.

Our source denies this too. “No one has discussed any idea about Drishyam 3 with Jeethu. In fact, he is not entertaining any stories from an outsider. He is working on an idea that is entirely his own,” the source explains, adding that there’s pressure from other makers to get Drishyam 3 made but Jeethu wants to ensure that “it’s done properly and not just for the sake of it”.

Meanwhile, the filmmaker is currently busy with Mohanlal’s big budget action-thriller Ram, which will have two instalments. The film also stars Trisha, Indrajith Sukumaran, Adil Hussain, Samyuktha Menon and G Chandunath as part of its cast.
