The upcoming film is directed by Satramm Ramani.
Double XL promises to address the trials and tribulations women have to go through as a result of body shaming. The film’s script is written by Mudassar Aziz and the filmmaker recently opened up about how he chose to tackle the issue through Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi’s characters in the film.
In conversation with ETimes, Aziz talked about how he had wanted to tell the film’s story for quite a while now and chose to address the issue through two protagonists as he wanted to tackle the issue through both sides of India- the rural side and the urban side. The protagonists are from Meerut and South Delhi, and Aziz remarked that despite the cultural divide between the two regions, fat shaming is rampant in both.
The filmmaker went on to talk about how the women from both regions are subject to fat shaming, albeit in different ways. The woman from Meerut might get to hear something along the lines of how she should eat less if she wanted to get married. The Delhi woman, who dreams of being a stylist, on the other hand might be asked to lose weight if she wants to achieve her dreams. “So, whether we are educated or uneducated, whether we hail from rural India or urban India, fat-shaming exists everywhere", he said.
The filmmaker also talked about why he chose Qureshi and Sinha for the roles. Talking about how the film was the story of two women who refused to take ‘no for an answer’ and refused to give up on their dreams, Aziz said that he incorporated material from the actress’ lives into the story. He also commended the actresses for being willing to gain weight for their roles as well.
The upcoming film is directed by Satramm Ramani and produced under the banners of T-Series, Wakaoo Films, and Elemen3 Entertainment.
