Don’t Look Up: Leonardo DiCaprio explains the bleak ending of Adam McKay’s satire

Adam McKay’s Don't Look Up the satirical science-fiction was released on Netflix last week and has had fans talk about the film, and its ending in particular. Now, lead actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence offer an explanation to the bleak ending of the movie.

Digital Spy reports that when DiCaprio talked to the Los Angeles Times, he said, “The end of this movie gets really dark, and had it not had that tonal shift, I don’t think we would have been excited as we were to do it.”

He added that this is what he loved about the ending, because he felt that this is how he would ultimately respond and that he would want to be with people he loves and ignore the impending armageddon.

Adding to what her co-star said, Lawrence said that to be a citizen that believes in climate change is very frustrating and makes her feel helpless.

Directed by Adam McKay, Don’t Look Up is a look into a possible future of the world, where a group of scientists discover an apocalyptic comet on its way to hit the planet, but has to go through the government and society disregarding their data.

While the film has received mixed reviews since its release, it does a great job of focusing on the distractions such as social media, political battles, and celebrities' lives that we see in real life, in the face of real world issues such as climate change.
