Director and editor Don Max is gearing up for the release of his sophomore directorial effort titled ‘@’. The teaser of the film, which was released recently, has already attracted attention as it’s the first such promo video to be released in HDR format.

Starring Akash Sen, Shaju Sreedhar, Rachel David, Sanjana Jose and Nayana Elsa, the movie is the first Malayalam film to explore the world of dark web, which refers to a group of websites that aren’t indexed by search engines and can only be accessed through special browsers.

But that’s not the only firsts that the makers have tried with the movie, which is a thriller. The film is also probably the first Indian film to be shot completely using a RED Raptor camera. The company’s president Jarred Land had recently congratulated the team for the effort.

In an earlier interview with us, Don, who had previously helmed 10 Kalpanakal starring Anoop Menon and Meera Jasmine, had said, “The camera allowed us to capture slow motion shots up to 600 frames per second.” This was important for the film as a lot of it shown through screen interfaces that its characters are interacting with.

The movie has Akash, who is the late director Sachy’s son, playing an IT professional who gets tangled in the world of dark web. As part of the script of the film, Don, who is also its scriptwriter, said they researched on how the dark web work, the possibilities of future crimes and have tried to present it in a way that can be understood by the audience.

The makers are yet to confirm if the film, which has Ravi Chandran as its cinematographer and Shameer Muhammed as its editor, will be an OTT or a theatrical release.
