Legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee had finished shooting the documentary based on him before being admitted to the hospital, where he breathed his last. He did the shooting in Bharatlakshmi Studio. Directed by Sayantan Mukhopadhyay and produced by Arindam Chattopadhyay, the name of the documentary is Ami Soumitra. The documentary is finally set to be released, two years after the actor passed away.
Ami Soumitra will be shown for one week, starting on January 13 at Nandan 2. Soumitra’s daughter Poulami Basu posted on Facebook, giving all the details. She wrote, “Friends, finally our documentary Ami Soumitra is getting released. I know I am announcing this at the eleventh hour. It will be shown in Nandan 2. The show time is 1 pm. It will be shown for a week. Friends, please come and see.”
Soumitra, who was a multi-talented personality, did not want to confine himself to acting. He contributed to a number of cultural arenas like writing poems, recitation, drawing, theatre, and direction. He was a workaholic who kept on working till the last of his days.
Soon after the shooting of this documentary finished, it was reported that Soumitra had Covid. His family decided to admit him to a hospital. He stayed there for 45 days but did not come back.
This documentary catches different sides of Soumitra – as a person, as a poet, and as an actor. It also shows him reciting poems.
