The 2003 film based on a Disneyland ride featured Eddie Murphy in the lead
LaKeith Stanfield and Tiffany Haddish are said to be in talks to star in the Disney movie Haunted Mansion, which is based on a ghost-themed attraction at the Disneyland theme parks.
The Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland features a ghost train ride that takes passengers through a haunted mansion where they get to experience different kinds of hauntings. This is the latest movie adaptation of a Disney theme attraction, the latest being the Jungle Cruise film starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt that had its world premiere recently.
The ghostly theme park attraction had seen a movie adaptation before, in the form of the 2003 comedy-horror film The Haunted Mansion, starring Eddie Murphy as a realtor who is trapped in a house with his family. The upcoming Disney movie is said to not have any connection to it.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new adaptation will feature the characters of a widower, who works as a tour guide and a psychic. Stanfield and Haddish would be playing the roles of the guide and psychic respectively, if the talks pan out.
Academy Award-winning actor and musician Stanfield, known for starring in biopics such as Snowden, Straight Outta Compton and Judas and the Black Messiah, has an upcoming film to be released on Netflix this year called The Harder They Fall.
Comedian Haddish also recently made her appearance in Bad Trip, a Netflix comedy. She is set to appear alongside Nicholas Cage in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
The upcoming Haunted Mansion film will be helmed by director Justin Simien. Dear White People, Simien’s first feature film, became acclaimed and inspired a series adaptation on Netflix.
