The director of the upcoming family drama Udanpirappe talks about the controversial speech made by Jyothika on temples,
After actress Jyothika’s speech at an award function last year sparked controversy, several celebrities like her husband Suriya, Vijay Sethupathi and others from the film fraternity came forward to extend their support to her during this ordeal. And now, Udanpirappe director Era Saravanan has also provided his support via a social media post, when talking about their experience during the shoot of his upcoming Jyothika-Sasikumar film at Thanjavur.
Era Saravanan put up a post talking about the Thanjavur Government Rasa Mirasudhar Hospital. He wrote that the government allocated funds for the welfare and infrastructure of the hospital after Jyothika’s speech. Jyothika said that more than temples, it is hospitals and schools that need donations and are in dire need of help and attention, which got her the wrath of several people. She said this at an award function after her filming experience in Thanjavur, where she saw the condition of the poorly maintained hospital and the plight of the patients waiting outside. The then dean of the hospital was also trying to remove encroachments around the area that were leading to a rise in the number of snakes at the hospital premises.
Jyothika had made a donation of Rs 25 lakh to the hospital.
The director credited Jyothika for speaking out which ultimately brought positive changes for the hospital.
Udanpirappe is a family drama starring Jyothika and Sasikumar in the lead roles as on-screen siblings. The movie also features Soori, Samuthirakani, Kalaiyarasan and Nivedhithaa Sathish in important roles. It will be a musical by D Imman. The movie will be streaming on Amazon Prime from October this year.
