It is well-known by now that singers, especially the Punjabi singers, have faced a certain situation. They all have received death threats after their songs became a hit. Diljit revealed a similar incident in an interview. He spoke about staying in hiding for three years. During the time, Diljit was working in a garage and did not wish to take ownership of his hit song. The question arose because Amar Singh Chamkila, who Diljit plays, was killed in the middle of a concert.

Diljit gets death threats

While promoting Amar Singh Chamkila with Imtiaz Ali, Diljit took Film Companion that he has faced death threats like any other hit artist (mainly Punjabi singers). He recalled that happening to elder artists as well. Diljit said that while some suffered little, the others had to face extreme consequences. He went on to spill that even the elder artists have suffered the same, which he realized after talking to them. “Unko shaayad lagta ho ki unka kaam suffer ho raha hai,” Diljit said.

What happened with Diljit

It was after his first hit song that Diljit went into hiding for three years. The singer-actor was scared that people would decipher it is his song. The actor-singer then spoke about how the minute his song was a hit, an elder artist sent him death threats. Diljit said that he was in hiding in a factory for three years, scared if people recognized he’s the voice behind the song. The singer said that he would hide his face and deny it all. He then recalled that the singers of his time protested against the situation they faced.
