The promo of the cult film was shown at the historic Times Square NYC
Whenever there is a mention or even a mere utterance of Bollywood classics, no conversation is complete without the mention of the ageless classic ‘Mughal-E-Azam’, which was released in the year 1960 and the date was August 5. The film, which was made at an estimated budget of Rs. 1.5 crores at that time, starred wo of the legendary actors of Bollywood in the form of Dilip Kumar and Madhubala. For all those who worship the film’s maker K. Asif’s style of film making and were yearning to relive those golden era’s golden moments all over again, here is a news which will definitely bring smile to your lips.
The good news is that, the ageless story has now been turned into a Broadway-style musical. The same was announced by the Twitter user named Raza Ahmad Rumi on social media. He had even shared a video of the splendid musical rendition and dance. After posting the video on social media, he captioned the post stating, “The legendary Mughal e Azam (1960 cinematic rendition of semi-fictional story of Mughal Emperor Akbar, his son Jahangir and Anarkali) has been turned into a broadway style musical. The said video showed a bunch of dancers who were dressed up in the never-to-be-forgotten attire of the late Madhubala in the ageless track of “Jab Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya”, with the track playing in the background. These dancers were seen in the same costume as that of the late Madhubala, with the exact replica of cap, which provided stunning authenticity to the costumes as well as the dance. This gets followed by the grand poster announcement of the musical ‘Mughal-E-Azam’, directed by Feroz Abbas Khan. The said North America tour will take place between May-August 2023.
After the said video was posted on social media, a user commented, “Isn’t it sad that the original author of the play “Anarkali”, written & performed in Lahore in the 1920s by Syed Imtiaz Ali Taj is forgotten and Bollywood has taken ownership. The Pakistan cinema & media industry missed it!”
