Malayalam actor Dileep claimed that his upcoming film Thankamani will do well in theatres because of people’s curiosity to know more about the incident. He said that this is the same rationale behind the success of films like Manjummel Boys and 2018.

He stated, "People are always interested in learning more about a movie that is based on true events, and moreover, they are eager to watch how a filmmaker recreates it.”

The actor claimed that although he had heard and read about the renowned Thankamani incident while in college, this movie allowed him to learn more about it. He continued by saying that, in addition to real-life events, this film also uses fictional elements.

Dileep clarified that the movie has fewer mass elements and its own poignant moments. At some point in their lives, everyone has encountered unexpected events over night, and many of them are plagued by them for the rest of their lives. Such a story, this is," he remarked.

He said that in order to learn more about the incident, the director of Thankamani had made a lot of efforts, including speaking with victims, authorities, and members of the media.

All about Thankamani

The film appears to be a compelling narrative of the actual events that took place in Thankamani, a village in the Kamakshi gram panchayat of the Idukki district, on October 21, 1986. A bus service dispute gave rise to gunfire and a police baton charge at the end of these events. The Thankamani incident in the 1980s shocked Kerala.

Other notable actors in the revenge thriller include Neeta Pillai, Pranitha Subhash, Thomman Manguva, Ajmal Ameer, Siddique, Manoj K Jayan, Kottayam Ramesh, Major Ravi, Santosh Keezhatoor, Malavika Menon, Sivakami, Sampath Ram, and John Vijay. The film is slated to release in theatres on March 7.

Due to the actress assault case and his choice of poor scripts, Dileep's films have underperformed at the box office in recent years, making this movie vital to his career.
