Team Ponniyin Selvan is slowly and steadily coming up with promotional activities for the movie which will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada on September 30. The makers have unveiled two songs from the ambitious film so far. They have now announced that veteran producer Dil Raju has bagged the theatrical rights of its Telugu version.
He is currently busy with Vijay-starrer Varisu which marks his debut production venture in Tamil under his banner Sri Venkateswara Creations. Team Ponniyin Selvan, including Mani Ratnam, Vikram, Karthi and Prakash Raj, were recently present at Hyderabad for the release of the project's second single.
Ponniyinn Selvan marks Mani's return to direction after a hiatus of four years. Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, which was released in 2018, was his last outing. During the teaser launch of Ponniyin Selvan in Chennai recently, the filmmaker revealed that he had attempted thrice to bring the film on screen earlier, but in vain.
The movie, which will be released in two installments, is based on the novel written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy under the same title. AR Rahman has composed music for the big budget flick which has been bankrolled by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies.
Ravi Varman and Thota Tharani have handled cinematography and art direction for the project respectively while Sreekar Prasad is in charge of editing. The film marks the second collaboration of Mani Ratnam with Vikram, Karthi and Trisha, while Aishwarya Rai is joining hands with the director for the fourth time.
Amazon Prime Video has bagged the movie's digital rights and an announcement on the same was made several months ago. Apart from lead actors, Sarath Kumar, Parthiban, Prakash Raj, Jayaram and Rahman among others will be seen essaying key roles.
