Die In A Gunfight released in 2021 and is now all set to have another innings in the streaming world.
The way Lionsgate Play is bringing old movies to their platform, giving them a re-release and a new life in the digital world, they will have an iconic library in no time. Be it them bringing back Copshop recently or gearing up for the release of films like Wanted Man, Adrift, Replicas, and more, the platform is trying to cater to all kinds of audiences with a varied range that is being presented. While thrillers are the flavour of the season, they are now set to bring yet another thriller that is not just a thriller but also a romantic story that takes cues from a cult classic tale and was much anticipated when it was released on the big screen back in 2021. If you are confused, we are talking about Die in a Gunfight, a movie that is loosely based on Romeo and Juliet and is an extremely dramatic love story.
Die in a Gunfight is a rather fascinating film because it has had a 7-year-long journey from scripting to finally making it to the big screen. Once regarded as the best-unproduced script of its time, it was later taken by Zac Efron, who was going to produce and star in it. But nothing about that came to fruition, and the script fell into the hands of director Collin Schiffli, who then brought in Diego Boneta and Alexandra Daddario. The movie is now all set to make its way to the Lionsgate Play platform, and below is all you need to know about the same.
As per the listings in the upcoming section of the Lionsgate Play app, the latest name to have been added is Die in a Gunfight. The movie that hit theatres in 2021 was welcomed with a mixed response from critics and audiences alike. However, it will be interesting to see what the audience has to say about the film three years down the line, as it will stream again. There is no date attached to it as of yet.
The movie, which is based on Romeo and Juliet, explores the themes of love and hope. It has two rival families, the Rathcarts and Gibbons, at the centre of it all and shows two of their members falling in love with each other. Ben Gibbons, the young man, falls in love with Mary Rathcart, the daughter of his father's enemy. After having spent many years apart, their love reignites, and the forbidden relationship sets them out on a road that has hitmen and killers behind them. The storyline takes a much bloodier turn than what the original story serves.
Talking about the film, director Collin Schiffli said in an interview with Forbes, "What I loved about it when I first read the script was that it kind of naturally was on the page. I didn’t know it going into it, but I was like, ‘Man, there are so many subtle nods.’ [It’s] just a love letter to cinema and the language of cinema, and to all of the movies that you watch when you’re younger once you’re fresh out of Spielberg movies, Star Wars and all of those classics.”
Die in a Gunfight will be released on Lionsgate Play and can be accessed with your OTTplay Premium subscription. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
