Silambarasan hasn't directed a film in sixteen years. However, the actor-director stated that his next step would be to direct a movie.

The Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu actor doubled as the lead in Vallavan (2006), his debut film as a director.

Silambarasan responded when questioned about his return to filmmaking, “Yes, I do have plans to direct a film. I have about ten scripts ready for the same.”

When asked about who will star in it, he added, “It will have me in the lead. Of course, I may make films with other actors playing the lead roles, but I will be the main character in each of these scripts.”

Silambarasan is currently shooting for Obeli N Krishna's Pathu Thala a remake of the Kannada superhit film Mufti.

The actor cited the writer Jeyamohan's concerns about his portrayal of a 19-year-old in Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu.

“I had a beard and was overweight at the time. Eventually, I underwent a total mental and physical transformation. The biggest challenge for me was getting people to notice me on film as Muthu rather than the star, Simbu. I had to alter my speech pattern, mannerisms, and body language to become him. This, in my opinion, is Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu's USP.”

Silambarasan attributed this mature change in his behaviour to the ups and downs in his life. “All I want right now is to demonstrate my talent and potential. As an actor, I have a great desire to follow my career wherever it may lead. I want to proceed slowly and, like Vijay sir, carefully prepare and complete each film when it is released.”

The actor claimed that if Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is successful, other stars will also be drawn to similar endeavours in the mainstream. “The audience is accustomed to the genre of movies that Gautham Menon and I did. But this time, he wanted to try something new. I am glad he was eager to explore a different genre, and succeeded in the attempt.”

Is a sequel to Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu in the works? “Gautham and I agreed not to discuss the sequel. We thought we would talk about it if the film became a hit. He has the final say.”

And, what about Maanaadu? “Any film's second part is based on how well the previous one did. There is a good chance that Maanaadu has a sequel given its appeal. That should happen if the circumstances are right, including a solid script and other elements.”
