Famous Indian singer Arijit Singh shared that AR Rahman bought the concept of auto-tune in India. Arijit further confessed that Pritam is making use of this technique till date.
Did Arijit Singh just blame AR Rahman, Pritam for making use of ‘auto-tune’ in Indian songs?
In this world driven by artificial intelligence, it is difficult to identify what is original and what is created by computer tools. Recently, world-famous Indian singer Arijit Singh – who has sung over 100 songs in Bollywood, confessed that Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman bought the concept of auto-tune in India. Arijit further confessed that reputed musician Pritam is making use of this technique till date.
For the unfamiliar, Auto-Tune is an AI-driven software that helps to alter pitch in vocal and instrumental music recording and performances.
Arijit Singh blames AR Rahman and Pritam for making use of ‘auto-tune’
During a conversation with The Music Podcast recently, Arijit Singh said it was AR Rahman who started auto-tune in India and singers began sounding ‘beautiful’. Later on, however, Arijit even confessed that AR Rahman does not make use of this technique now.
He said that Auto-tune can’t turn a non-singer into a singer. “It’s not like you sing anything, apply auto-tune and it will sound like it’s in tune. It’s not possible. When people really liked to listen to Rahman’s songs, it was he who actually started using auto-tune in a very subtle way. That’s how a lot of singers started sounding beautiful."
However, Arijit spoke against reputed musician Pritam Chakraborty alleging that he is making use of this artificial intelligence-driven technique till date.
He said, "Some music composers don’t like it at all like Mithoon Sharma, and Vishal Bhardwaj. AR Rahman also doesn’t do it anymore, earlier he used to. Now he goes with whatever voice is there. Pritam’s music always has auto-tune, to make it sound better."

Arijit Singh also confessed that Sonu Nigam doesn’t make use of this technique and said that he can’t ever “go out of tune”.
“When a singer sings, they sing with emotion. And when they sing with emotion, it is never perfect, they go away from the sur (tune) a little bit, most singers except Sonu Nigam, he can’t go out of tune I feel,” Arijit added.
