The Nadhikalil Sundari Yamuna star said that he was neck-deep in synthetic drugs for a long time and that phase had ruined his life

Malayalam actor Dhyan Sreenivasan, who is gearing up for the release of his new film Nadhikalil Sundari Yamuna, has always been an open book during his promotional interviews. The latest one, unveiled a dark chapter in a life – one that was plagued with drug use.

The actor opened up about being a drug addict and how that led to a strained relationship with his father Sreenivasan and almost ruined his career and life.

In an interview with Manorama News, Dhyan said that he was an alcoholic and a drug addict during his college days and his family thought he would never come back from those habits.

Dhyan Sreenivasan says cinema is a rehab for him

"Cinema is now a rehabilitation phase for me to stay away from drugs and regain my health. Now, I am doing every project that comes my way so that I will always be occupied,” he said. The actor recounted that he was a heavy user of synthetic drugs during his college years – especially between the ages of 19 and 21. “I stopped it after some of my friends started getting sick,” Dhyan said.

According to the actor, drugs spoiled his college life, friendship and family relationships. He also said that there were times when he used to abuse his father during the addiction. “I was even ousted from my house,” he said, explaining that he had no memory of that incident. “When I came to my senses, my driver told me about the incident,” Dhyan explained.

The actor also advised drug users to quit the habit as he was an addict and it had almost ruined his life. Dhyan said that the biggest sign of an addict is when he or she starts using it in isolation.

The Jailer actor explained that his marriage and daughter’s birth helped him kick the habit. “Now, I am clean and haven't used it for the last few years. I was able to resist these drugs and substances even when I visited the Tomorrowland music festival in Europe, where the drugs keep flowing,” Dhyan said.

Aju Varghese will essay a pivotal role in Nadhikalil Sundari Yamuna and their hilarious combo is one of the highlights of the film. Pragya Nagra plays the female lead in the film, which also has Nirmal Palazhi, Navas Vallikkunnu, Kalabhavan Shajohn and Aneesh Gopal as part of the cast.
