Dhyan's film had initially shared the same release date as Rajinikanth's film
Malayalam film Jailer was involved in a controversy with Rajinikanth's Jailer over titles clashing and also the common release date. Later the makers of the Malayalam film decided to push the release after theatre owners denied a long theatrical window. Now the lead actor in the Malayalam Jailer, Dhyan Sreenivasan opined that the controversy helped his film.
Dhyan Sreenivasan on the controversy
Speaking to a YouTube channel, Variety Media, the actor said which roughly translates to, "We don't have any problem with the Tamil film, Jailer. It is true that our film was involved in a dispute with them regarding the title. We were the first to register the title in the Film Chamber but Sun Pictures asked us to change the title by sending a legal notice. We held a press meet to make the public aware that we are legally entitled to use the title. I think what has happened actually benefitted us. Our film got the attention of the viewers without any promotions. So I am looking at this controversy in a positive way."
Sakkir Madathil's legal battle with Sun Pictures for title
Earlier Sakkir Madathil, the director of Malayalam Jailer, had requested Sun Pictures to alter the title of their Rajinikanth movie, as the former were the first ones to register the title. Sun Pictures denied the request and Sakkit & Co. were served a legal notice. Later the makers of the Dhyan Sreenivasan starrer locked the release date of August 10, meaning that both 'Jailers' would clash at the box office. But yielding to the pressure from theatre owners, who denied a long theatrical window to the Malayalam Jailer, the makers decided to postpone the release. Sakkir said that he did not want to confuse the viewers coming to theatres, hence pushing the release date.
What is Dhyan Sreenivasan's Jailer about?
Similar to Rajiniknath's film, Malayalam Jailer also revolves around the life of a Jailer. In the Malayalam film, Dhyan essays a Jailer who sets out to catch some prisoners who escaped from prison. Along with Dhyan, the film also stars Manoj K Jayan, Unni Raja and Divya Pillai. The film will release in theatres on August 18.
