Dhoomam marks Hombale Films’ official entry into Mollywood, as well as for director Pawan Kumar, who had conceptualized it as a Kannada film years ago, but couldn’t get cracking on it for lack of funds. When he eventually got the right backing, his plans had changed and the film became a Malayalam original with Fahadh Faasil, Aparna Balamurali, Roshan Mathew, Joy Mathew, Vineeth and Achyuth Kumar, among others, on the cast. Set to release in theatres on June 23, the trailer of the film was released earlier today.

“Fahadh Faasil + Pawan Kumar + Hombale Films – a combination that will not disappoint,” this was a common refrain from netizens who saw the trailer as soon as it dropped. “#Dhoomam trailer lacks the elevation factors needed to make it interesting. But the names of the trio involved in making the film (Fahad Faasil- Pawan Kumar -Hombale Films) are enough to generate hype,” noted a netizen.

While pretty much everyone was on the same page that the trailer looks good and promising, and that the BGM and editing were fantastic, they were also in unison that Pawan did not really drop any hints about the plot of Dhoomam. “This is the kind of trailer where you don’t understand anything, but still like it,” wrote a netizen. Fans, however, are confident that given Fahadh’s track record of choosing content-oriented scripts, Dhoomam will be worth a trip to the theatres. “Looks like a solid thriller is on the way,” said a user, while another added, that Dhoomam will, most definitely, have a socially-relevant message.

Dhoomam’s trailer is the first nugget of promotion the team has done and comes only two weeks before its date with audiences. Netizens are hopeful that the makers will go all-out with a publicity campaign. The film is releasing in Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, but comes only a week after Prabhas’ much-anticipated Adipurush, the fate of which will have an impact on Dhoomam, no matter what.
