Director Pawan Kumar’s thriller about the perils of smoking was expected on OTT in July
Kannada filmmaker Pawan Kumar’s first collaboration with Hombale Films was supposed to be Dvitva with (late) Puneeth Rajkumar in the lead. But when the actor tragically passed away, Pawan had to realign his plans and when the production house showed interest of backing another film with him, he saw it as an opportunity to finally get his long-delayed C10H14N2 on the floors. The banner, though, was in the process of getting Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil on board for one of their films and then got Pawan to narrate his script to the actor, who, in turn, was quite fascinated by it.
Having Fahadh as the lead actor, though, meant that Pawan had to make his film in Malayalam and not Kannada first, as he’d hoped. And while the film eventually did get a Kannada dubbed version as well, the box office reception to it was far from satisfactory. The Malayalam version was snubbed by audiences, while Kannada fared slightly better. But overall, it was an underwhelming theatrical outing.
The film, though, had been sold to Amazon Prime Video and the buzz was that it would drop on the streamer within the 30-day mark. Dhoomam was in theatres on June 23, and a tentative date of July 21 was heard for its streaming debut. However, a week since, there’s been no news of the film on the platform and the latest we hear is that it will, most definitely, be available in the first week of August. In fact, multiple film trade handles have stated that August 4 is when Dhoomam will begin streaming and that it will then be available in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi as well.

The film team had released only Kannada and Malayalam versions in theatres, with the rest to be out at a later date, depending on the box office reception, which, of course, did not happen. Dhoomam, which also starred Aparna Balamurali, Roshan Mathew, Vineeth, Achyuth Kumar, among others, is a revenge drama that unfolds in the aftermath of a tragedy related to nicotine use.
