Filmmaker Pawan Kumar is quite upbeat about the dubbed Kannada version of his latest movie Dhoomam, which is due in cinemas this Friday. He made a video to share his excitement about the wonderful job that the dubbing artists have done for the movie, making him question his own biases against the dubbed versions. "When I watch Italian or Spanish films, even though the English-dubbed versions are available, I usually prefer the original versions with English subtitles," Pawan said.

"As a technician and filmmaker lip-sync is important for me," he said. He noted that was the main reason why he was only promoting the original Malayalam version for so long. And he even advised his family and friends to watch the movie in Malayalam.

However, he was taken by surprise when he saw the final cut of the Kannada dubbed version. "My music director Poornachandra and producer Vijay Kirgandur were very happy and excited after watching the Kannada version. And I was intrigued to watch it myself," he added. "I was still convinced that the dubbed version won't be as good as the original version."

Pawan said on Tuesday night he watched the movie and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the dubbing. "You won't believe it, it felt so good. For eight months, we were listening only to Malayalam (dialogues). Even though we didn't know the language, we put in a lot of hard work to understand it and complete the film. But, when I saw the movie with the dialogue I wrote in Kannada, I was completely in it," he said.

He also made a humble appeal to the Kannada audience to not make the same mistake he did and go watch the Kannada version in cinemas. "The film is also releasing in Kannada. Please don't reject the movie thinking that it's a dubbed movie. The dubbing studio has done a very good job," he said, while promising "a very good experience" for the Kannada audience.

"Trust me and go watch this in theatres. After five minutes, you will forget that it's a dubbed movie," he added. He revealed that the filmmakers will be releasing a new trailer showcasing the changes they have made in dubbing after the first trailer for the Kannada version received mixed reactions.

Dhoomam marks Hombale Films' foray in the Malayalam film industry. Written and directed by Pawan, the movie stars Fahadh Faasil, Aparna Balamurali, Roshan Mathew, Vineeth Radhakrishnan, Anu Mohan and Achyuth Kumar.
