Dheekshith Shetty: Blink will set a new benchmark in Kannada cinema

Blink is thought to be a sci-fi flick, but Dheekshith explains that while it has such an element, the film is more about human emotions

It’s been well over six months since Dheekshith Shetty was last seen onscreen. The actor had a pivotal role in Dasara, which came out in March this year. And while he has a few films ready for release, like Blink and KTM, the teams of both are still trying to figure out a decent window to bring them to theatres. Blink, which is Dheekshith’s collaboration with Srinidhi Bengaluru, a good pal from his days in theatre, just released a new song called Sakhi, so we checked in with the actor if the film is up for release shortly. “Blink will, in all probability, be an early 2024 release. As a team, we realize that smaller films like ours need more time to reach audiences and spread the word about Blink. The idea is to release a song every month in the run up to the release,” says Dheekshith.

The film, meanwhile, is often talked about as a sci-fi project, but speaking at the song launch, the actor reiterated that the science bit is only a portion of the narrative. Blink, he says, is more about human emotions. “The film will be an eye opener on the importance of humanity and love for fellow human beings,” says the actor, adding that he firmly believes that Blink has a never-before-told story and will appeal to audiences who like thought-provoking cinema. “For the younger crowd, Blink will definitely be a new experience,” Dheekshith attests. The actor also says that for those who’ve been saying that Kannada cinema has not been experimenting with different kind of stories and genres, Blink will set a new benchmark.

The film’s star cast also includes Mandara Battalahalli, Suresh Anagalli, and Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Vajradhan Jain and Chaithra J Achar, among others. Dheekshith plays backstage hand with a theatre group and follows certain incidents that happen in his life.
