Dhanveerah on Kaiva - The film's got an A certificate, but not for vulgarity

Kaiva, which is releasing in theatres on December 8, is a period film set in the 80s, based on real incidents that occurred in Bengaluru at the time. The film pairs Dhanveerah with Megha Shetty

Dhanveerah, who was last seen in 2022’s By2Love, is back this week with Kaiva, a period film set in the 80s, which explores a social issue, but is also a love story at its crux. Directed by Jayathirtha, whose last was the Zaid Khan debut Banaras, Kaiva pairs Dhanveerah with Megha Shetty. Although Dhanveerah is only on his third film, the actor is clear that he does not want to repeat himself and be typecast in a particular image.

Speaking on RaghaRagam StoryBox’s Gold Class, Dhanveerah said that even though it is still early days in his career, he is extremely picky about the roles to do. To be a complete actor, he reckons that he needs to do a wide variety of roles in different shades. This, he says, is the route to audience’s heart. Instead, if he were to follow a standard ‘commercial cinema’ template, audiences will form a certain image of him, which then becomes difficult to break out of. Also, if he then tries to do something different, they will not accept it, so the way out, he says, is to just do varied roles right from the start, so that viewers also expect variety of him.

Kaiva, meanwhile, has been censored and awarded an ‘A’ certificate, but that, says Dhanveerah, is not because of vulgarity. The film, says the actor, is about a regular boy-next-door, whose hopes and dreams are dashed under certain circumstances and how that pushes him to certain extremes. “You will understand why the film was given an A certificate only when you watch the film and can’t judge it based on the certification,” he says, adding that the content has a pertinent message as well. Dhanveerah is also confident that the censor certification will not be a hindrance for footfalls. Audiences today, he says, depend on word-of-mouth publicity about the content to decide whether to watch a film or not. The team of Kaiva is confident that people will appreciate their content and hence made the film.
