Captain Miller and Lal Salaam and confirmed to hit the theatres for Pongal 2024
Festive seasons are often considered the best time to release movies. When it comes to Tamil cinema, Pongal is one of those occasions when some of the biggest films of the year hit the theatres. According to the latest updates, Pongal 2024 is going to be a very exciting time for the industry, with some massive projects lining up for release.
From Dhanush’s period action drama Captain Miller to Aishwarya Rajinikanth’s directorial Lal Salaam here are the highly anticipated Tamil movies releasing during Pongal 2024…
1. Captain Miller
For his upcoming period action drama Captain Miller Dhanush is joining hands with filmmaker Arun Matheswaran, who is best known for acclaimed movies like Rocky and Saani Kaayidham. The eagerly awaited project is set to hit the big screen during Pongal 2024. From the official teaser and posters, it is evident that the movie is a gory actioner that is set in the pre-Independence era.
Along with Dhanush, Captain Miller also features Dr Shiva Rajkumar, Priyanka Arul Mohan, Nassar and Sundeep Kishan, among others, in pivotal roles. GV Prakash Kumar has composed the music. The makers are expected to announce the release date officially, very soon.

2. Lal Salaam
Aishwarya Rajinikanth is making a comeback to filmmaking after a long gap with Lal Salaam an upcoming sports drama. Superstar Rajinikanth is making an extended cameo appearance in the project, which features Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in the lead.
According to the latest updates, Lal Salaam is gearing up for a grand theatrical release during Pongal 2024. The official release date is expected to be announced very soon. AR Rahman has composed the songs and original score for the Aishwarya Rajinikanth directorial, which is bankrolled by Lyca Productions.

3. Ayalaan
The highly anticipated science fiction movie, with Sivakarthikeyan in the lead, is set to release during the Pongal season of 2024. The R Ravikumar directorial is gearing up for its grand release after multiple delays caused by its extensive post-production works.
Rakul Preet Singh is playing the female lead in Ayalaan which features Bollywood actor Sharad Kelkar as the antagonist. Yogi Babu, Bhanupriya, Isha Koppikar, Karunakaran, and Bala Saravanan will appear in supporting roles. AR Rahman has composed the film’s songs and original score.

4. Merry Christmas
The bilingual thriller helmed by Sriram Raghavan, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif, is another much-awaited project that will hit the theatres during Pongal 2024. Merry Christmas which was originally slated to release in December 2023, was officially postponed to January 12, 2024.
The film also features Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Gayathrie and Tinnu Anand in supporting roles, with Radhika Apte reportedly making a cameo appearance.
5. Aranmanai 4
Renowned filmmaker Sundar C is set to make a comeback with the fourth instalment of his famous Aranmanai movie franchise, for the upcoming Pongal season. The project, which has been titled Aranmanai 4 features Tamannaah Bhatia and Raashii Khanna in the lead roles. Sundar himself plays a key role in the movie, along with Yogi Babu and VTV Ganesh. The official release date of the project is yet to be revealed.
