Kollywood superstar Dhanush had stayed away from the promotions of his upcoming film Jagame Thandhiram till now. But that will change with the actor set to interact with fans ahead of the film’s music release today.

Dhanush, who was reportedly not pleased with the producers’ decision to release the movie on OTT instead of theatres, had earlier decided to avoid the promotions. Apparently, the makers were keen on releasing the film on OTT earlier this year but with theatres reopening in February and Dhanush also pushing for a theatrical release, the producers were forced to reconsider.

However, the lockdown due to the second wave of COVID-19 pushed the makers to sell the digital rights to Netflix. Initially, only the film’s director Karthik Subbaraj and other cast members such as Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George and Scottish actor James Cosmo were advertised as being part of the film’s promotions with Netflix. However, with Dhanush now ready to talk to fans through Twitter Spaces, a day after the micro-blogging site introduced the feature, it’s unclear whether the actor will also join the rest of the team for Netflix promotions.

The action-thriller, which is set to release on June 18 on Netflix, will have Dhanush playing a gangster named Suruli who helps a foreign crime lord played by Cosmo. In the course of his mission, he faces a moral dilemma especially after realising how the concept of home is different for other people.

Santosh Narayanan composed Jagame Thandhiram’s songs, of which Rakita and Nethu were rendered by Dhanush. “We spent a lot of time in the studio trying out different things that eventually led to the creation of each song. I was given the space to explore music which I feel is very important. It was a lot of fun creating the music for Jagame Thandhiram. When Rakita released, I was so happy that listeners told me the song made them happy in stressful times,” said Narayanan.
