The film, also starring Akshay Kumar and Sara Ali Khan, will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on December 24
After a gap of almost six years, Dhanush is set to take Bollywood by storm yet again, this time with the upcoming Atrangi Re. The National Award-winning actor revealed exactly why he chose the romantic drama film to mark his return to Hindi cinema.
In conversation with PTI, the actor remarked how he had always been drawn to films with captivating storylines, and Atrangi Re was one of them. For a film to be successful, it required a plethora of elements to come together, and the star hoped that his work on the film would be appreciated by his fans.
But one of the main reasons that he chose to do the film, he said, was the involvement of director Aanand L Rai. The filmmaker had directed Dhanush in the latter’s debut Hindi film, 2013’s Raanjhanaa as well. The actor had nothing but good things to say of Rai. Dhanush not only said he admired the filmmaker’s ‘sensibilities’ in filmmaking, but also his technical prowess. Dhanush said that he trusted Rai so much that he could easily just follow the latter’s instructions without question.
Dhanush’s last Hindi venture was 2015’s Shamitabh, which was written and directed by R. Balki. The satirical drama saw the star share screen space with Amitabh Bachchan.
In Atrangi Re, Dhanush stars alongside Akshay Kumar and Sara Ali Khan. The three play characters who are caught in a love triangle with each other. The film’s Tamil version is titled Galatta Kalyanam. The film’s soundtrack is composed by A R Rahman.
Atrangi Re will be available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar on December 24.
