Ram Madhvani's latest thriller, Dhamaka stars Kartik Aryan and Mrunal Thakur in lead roles.

The wait is finally over for Kartik Aryan fans. After offering a sneak peek with a poster of his upcoming film in March, Aryan has finally released the explosive trailer of Dhamaka set to premiere on Netflix this month. The trailer launch event became the talk of the town because of the immersive experience and innovative idea. Aryan transitioned into his reel character on stage and recreated a scene from the film in front of the audience. Later on he was joined by the director and his co-stars.

This is Aryan’s first collaboration with director Ram Madhvani. Loosely adapted from the high-octane Korean thriller The Terror Live (2013), Kartik Aryan steps in the shoes of a news-anchor turned radio jockey who is torn between his career and conscience. Like in his previous directorial Neerja, Madhvani seeks to push the boundaries of the thriller genre in Dhamaka by delving into human emotions. Dhamaka explores human emotions under the veneer of a thriller.

Who are the makers of Dhamaka?

Dhamaka is helmed by Ram Madhvani. He made quite the name for himself with his directional Neerja (2016) which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in 2017. Based on a true story of a plane hijack, Neerja garnered praise and accolades for its gripping narrative and its emotional core.

Madhvani is known for his unique direction style and his approach towards his actors. Taking it up a notch this time, he shot most of Dhamaka within the confines of a single room. The whole film was shot within an astonishing ten days, of which nine were specifically dedicated to shooting Kartik Aryan’s part. Aryan said that Madhvani very subtly infused a sense of tension and apprehension within the actors. So much so, that when Amruta Subhash choked on medicine while shooting, she decided to carry on so as not to break the flow of the scene.

The background score has been composed by Madhvani’s long-time collaborator Vishal Khuranna. The duo has previously worked on Neerja (2016) and the web series Aarya (2020).

Who will star in Dhamaka?

Dhamaka has a mix of young and renowned faces. Kartik Aryan essays the role of the news anchor while Mrunal Thakur appears as his reel-wife and a journalist. Amruta Subhash plays the role of his senior and showrunner. Dhamaka also stars Vikas Kumar and Vishwajeet Pradhan in key roles.

What is Dhamaka about?

Dhamaka is about a primetime news anchor turned radio jockey who is kicked out because of his volatile nature. After receiving an explosive call at the radio station, he gets embroiled in controversy.

What seems like a hoax call at first, sets up a domino effect that comes back to haunt everyone involved. This flings him back into the world he had left behind - the attention and the TRP hungry media industry. As he tries to negotiate his way into the upper echelons of the media house, he is thrown in at the deep end. It dredges up old wounds and puts him in a traumatic situation where his one choice can bring forth drastic consequences.

When and where to watch Dhamaka?

Initially, Dhamaka was slated for a theatrical release. But, keeping in mind the Covid situation, the producers finally decided on an OTT release. An international collaboration between Lotte Entertainment and Global Gate Entertainment in association with Ram Madhvani Films and RSVP Movie, Dhamaka can be streamed on Netflix from November 19.
