Dhamaka director Trinadha Rao Nakkina: We can’t afford to experiment while working on a film with Ravi Teja

Ahead of Dhamaka’s release on December 23, the filmmaker is confident of living up to audience’s expectations

When an energetic performer like Ravi Teja and director Trinadha Rao Nakkina, known for his unapologetic mass entertainers, join forces, audiences expect nothing short of a mass festival on the big screen. This is exactly what Dhamaka promises to be, assures the filmmaker, who awaits the release of his film on December 23. Sreeleela, Sachin Khedekar, Jayaram, Rajashree Nair and others too play important roles in the film produced by TG Vishwa Prasad under People Media Factory along with Abhishek Agarwal Arts.

In a chat with the media today, Trinadha Rao Nakkina spoke of his Dhamaka experiences. “It was my dream to direct Ravi Teja someday and I consider myself lucky to have made a film with him. Dhamaka is just what Ravi Teja’s fans would expect from his film. When I am teaming up with a star like him, I know one can’t experiment too much and I said the same to Ravi Teja garu too. While he tried to do something offbeat recently and fans missed his usual energy, Dhamaka marks a return to his comfort zone.”

He understands that expectations from a Trinadha Rao Nakkina directorial and a Ravi Teja starrer would be very high. “We’ve done everything within our capacity to entertain audiences and that’s the reason we’ve captioned it ‘Double Impact’. Dhamaka will have a heavier dose of entertainment in comparison to my earlier films Nenu Local, Cinema Choopista Mama, Hello Guru Prema Kosame. There were apprehensions that we took a newcomer like Sreeleela, but she’s a much-in-demand heroine now,” he adds.

Heaping praise on Sreeleela, Trinadha Rao calls her a great dancer and a talented performer besides applauding her decision to dub for Dhamaka. Jayaram will be seen in an out-and-out negative role in the entertainer. “He told me that he was doing a full-fledged negative role for the first time. He’ll be seen in a sophisticated avatar. Rao Ramesh and Hyper Aadhi’s comedy track will remind you of the sequences of Rao Gopal Rao and Allu Ramalingaiah from 80s films.”

He credits his crew for executing his vision for Dhamaka to perfection, right from the composer Bheems Ceciroleo to cinematographer Karthik Gattamneni to editor Prawin Pudi and art director Sri Nagendra Tangala. “There are many lavish sets in the film, including a colony and an office. We used the seven-storeyed People Tech office like a studio. Prawin Pudi has worked with me from my very first film. Prasanna Kumar Bezawada came with a terrific script that suited Ravi Teja’s body language perfectly.”

Dhamaka will have a commercial flavour akin to Rowdy Alludu, showcasing Ravi Teja in a double role. He is confident that audiences will appreciate the on-screen chemistry between him and Sreeleela. “They worked very hard on the dances. Ravi Teja plays two contrasting roles. There’s romance, family emotions, good music and action in the story. We plan to release another song from the film soon.” The director has three projects in the pipeline, one with Mythri Movie Makers, Dil Raju and S Krishna.
