Given that there were no new Malayalam releases at the beginning of this month, the makers of Devadoothan, starring Mohanlal, have confirmed that the movie will have more screenings throughout the state from this weekend. Due to the multiple landslides in Wayanad that claimed several lives on July 30, Malayalam films that were scheduled to debut in theatres on August 2 were postponed. In the meantime, the re-release of the cult psychological thriller gave it the recognition and success it deserved. With multiple sold-out showings across the state, people are flocking to theatres to see the movie.
The movie, which was a huge commercial failure when it first came out in theatres in 2001, is finally getting the recognition and success it deserves after being out for 24 years. After airing on television, Devadoothan rose to fame as a cult classic. It is reported to have made over Rs 50 lakh at the worldwide box office on the first day of its re-release. The Sibi Malayil-directed film is predicted to garner a decent sum in the box office following its theatrical run.

As per recent reports, the psychological thriller saw over 20 extra shows in Kerala on Day 2 of its re-release. It is astounding that fewer than 100 screens carried Devadoothan's initial re-release. Even though it was first released 24 years ago, the mystery musical drama—which is renowned for Vidyasagar's outstanding score—has the potential to succeed at the box office given the increasing number of viewers. Both Vidyasagar and Sibi Malayil recently thanked the audience for their warm response to the film.
Malayalam films that were supposed to premiere in theatres on August 2 have been postponed due to the intense rains that have been plaguing the state and the landslides in Wayanad that claimed several lives on July 30. On Friday, August 2, the movies Footage (starring Manju Warrier), Adios Amigo (starring Asif Ali and Suraj Venjaramoodu), and Chithini (starring Vinay Forrt) were supposed to debut on big screen.
