The movie marks Samantha’s Shaakuntalam co-star Dev Mohan’s first theatrical release
Dev Mohan is all set for his first theatrical release in his career. The actor, who made his debut through Mollywood’s first direct-to-OTT release Sufiyum Sujatayum in 2020, will be seen in big screens on June 10 this year when Leo Thaddeus’ will hit cinema halls worldwide.
The upcoming movie, which also has Srinda, Vinayakan, Shine Tom Chacko, Lal and Veena Nair, is a musical thriller revolving around a group of gangsters in a coastal town. What happens when a oud player, essayed by Dev, comes into their lives forms the plot of the film, which was shot during the pandemic.
In a recent interview with OTTplay, Dev said that Leo had narrated the story of Panthrand to him in half an hour and he instantly liked its subject. “He was crystal clear about what he wanted. That’s all I look for in a director,” he said, adding that he was excited about working with the other actors who were playing pivotal roles in the movie.
Panthrand also has the actor in a new get-up. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Leo told us, “We needed someone who looked graceful and Dev fit the bill. Once, the audience watches the movie, they would also pick the undertones that we have weaved into the script and his looks sort of contribute to that,” he said.
The film has Vinayakan as a gang leader and Shine Tom Chacko as the former’s brother. Lal plays a politician in the film, which also has Indrans, Sohan Seenulal, Prashanth Murali and Vettukili Prakash in pivotal roles.
Panthrand marks Dev’s third Malayalam venture after Sufiyum Sujatayum and Puli, which is helmed by Jiju Ashokan. Dev plays a convict in the latter, which also has Senthil Krishna, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Sudhy Kopa and Sreejith Ravi as part of the cast. Dev will also be seen sharing screen space in Indrans in Pulli, which completed shooting last year.
Meanwhile, Dev’s big release this year will be the pan-Indian Telugu movie titled Shaakuntalam, which has Samantha in the lead. The film, directed by Gunasekhar, has him playing King Dushyanth.
