Manoj Bajpayee says Shah Rukh Khan always wanted to be a star but that wasn’t his goal. Read on for details!
Manoj Bajpayee-Shah Rukh Khan
Bollywood actors Manoj Bajpayee and Shah Rukh Khan may not be the best of friends today, but their connection goes long back. The duo were trained together under acting coach Barry John in New Delhi. In multiple interviews, Manoj opened up about the fact that neither they were friends or spent a lot of time together, despite starting their acting journey at the same time. In a recent interview, the Despatch actor asked if he was ever jealous of Shah Rukh Khan's success.
In a recent interview with Barkha Dutt, when Manoj Bajpayee was asked if he felt jealous of Shah Rukh Khan, he said that Shah Rukh Khan always wanted to be a star and to be loved and be the centre of attention and that was never his target. He added, “I was completely okay with not being surrounded by 20 people in my theatre group. I was completely okay with nobody looking at me. I was completely okay with being a fly on the wall."
In the same conversation, Bajpayee was asked if he was upset about Shah Rukh Khan's success despite both of them starting at the same time. But the actor denied it and said that confidence was affected by failure and not by someone else's popularity. He also recalled how Barry John would subtly help him instead of judging him for not speaking English well. “Many times, he would throw this challenge at me, whenever he was doing an English play with Divya (Seth) or Rituraj (Singh) or Shah Rukh, he’d give me a small role," he said.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Manoj Bajpayee's recent film is titled Despatch. The film was recently released and is currently streaming on ZEE5 and OTTplay Premium.
