Depp v. Heard: 5 key things to know about Hollywood's famous defamation trial before watching the Netflix documentary

Depp v. Heard titled documentary is garnering a lot of attention from around the world since its announcement. Before streaming the Emma Cooper-directed docufilm on August 16, here are the 7 key things to know about Hollywood's famous defamation trial.

Before watching the Netflix documentary, here are seven key things to know about the trial involving Johnny Depp and Amber Heard:

John C. Depp, II v. Amber Laura Heard

Met on the sets of The Rum Diary in 2009, Depp and Heard took vows in 2015 and got separated in 2017. The formerly married couple got involved in the highly publicized legal battle that included abuse and defamation allegations.

The Allegations

Both Hollywood actors alleged each other of domestic violence which occurred while they were married. Meanwhile, later, the Pirates of the Caribbean star also sued his ex-wife in a defamation case.

Defamation Lawsuit

Not only against Heard, but Depp claimed defamation on the British newspaper called The Sun and the executive editor, Dan Wootton for referring to the Hollywood star as a "wife-beater" in the tabloid.

Witnesses

The famous trial featured many Hollywood stars as witnesses among multiple high-profile people. Jason Momoa has been one of the most talked about witnesses in John C. Depp, II v. Amber Laura Heard.

Pieces of evidence

Both sides presented evidence to support their claims including text messages, audio & video recordings, photographs, live witnesses and well as witness statements that helped the court reach its final decision in around two months.

Finally, the judge ruled mostly in favour of Depp, who was awarded 10 million dollars for all the harm he has been through, while Heard also got 2 million dollars for her defamation claims.

Depp v. Heard is all set to release on August 18 on Netflix.
