Ronnie Screwvala, who is producing a web series on 1987 Bhopal Gas Tragedy, has found its helmer. Richie Mehta, who created International Emmy winning Netflix series Delhi Crime will be directing the upcoming web series. The show is based on the 1997 book titled Five Past Midnight in Bhopal: The Epic Story of the World’s Deadliest Industrial Disaster written by Dominique Lapierre and Javier Moro.
The streaming platform for the show has not been zeroed down yet and talking about the same, Ronnie told Variety, "We want to be doing the development on our own because I think if you get into too much consensus view right in the beginning then it becomes a bit of a challenge."
While praising the authors of the book and talking about the unforgettable man-made disaster, Richie further said, "Many people don’t even know about it or they hear rumours of it in India and certainly internationally. And so, I feel like it’s really important to get it out there in an impartial and extremely well-researched manner, which the authors have done."
Reports have it, the show will be six to eight-episode long with a runtime of about one hour each. Ronnie's RSVP and Ramesh Krishnamoorthy's Global One Studios are producing the show while Richie will be serving as a writer, director and showrunner.
Meanwhile, Delhi Crime has been renewed for its second season and the original cast will be reprising their roles. The first season became the first Indian series to win the Outstanding Drama Series at International Emmy Awards 2020.
