The makers of acclaimed and ever popular crime drama series Delhi Crime dropped its second season recently. It has been receiving accolades from both reviewers and film buffs. Many of them believe that it has met the high standard set by the first season, which received an International Emmy nomination. The show's brutal portrayal of violence, a change from the previous season, has shocked many fans, though. The show's director Tanuj Chopra has now come up with an explanation on the same in an interview with Hindustan Times.

The perpetrators and victims are shown in vivid, bloody detail in the second season of the show. In response to a question of why the portrayal has been so detailed, he said, “We could show many things in this season, which we couldn’t earlier. In season one, we never showcased the crime. We never showed much of anything. The audience already knew all of it. This time, we had the responsibility to spoon feed the audience about the crime. So, we thought the crime scenes could be more graphic per se.”

He added that the 2012 infamous gang rape was known as Nirbhaya case, and majority of people knew details associated with it. The Kaccha-Baniyaan Gang, on the other hand, was active in the past and is unknown to the majority of spectators. He said, “The audience didn’t know about the crimes which we showcased in the second season. They were not aware of the brutality, so in order to make them feel for the victims, we had to show the severity of it all.”

Shefali Shah is the lead actor in Delhi Crime 2 as well playing the leader of the Delhi Police squad which is in charge of investigating the crime. Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang, Adil Hussain, Gopal Dutt, Sidharth Bhardwaj, Denzil Smith, Yashaswini Dayama, and Tillotama Shome also appear in key roles. The second season premiered on Netflix on August 26.
