The rap song gets a shout-out by the actress.
The Oscars 2023, also known as the 95th Academy Awards ceremony, was a very exciting night for Indians as we saw RRR and The Elephant Whisperers win the prestigious honours. Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone introduced the award-winning song Naatu Naatu from the SS Rajamouli film while it was also played live onstage. Her words has now been transformed into a popular rap song by Canadian DJ SickKick, which even got the actress's attention.
In the Best Original Song category, Naatu Naatu won the Oscar. The songs were sung live on stage by the artists Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj. Deepika used the phrase "total banger" to introduce them on stage.
Deepika Padukone's usage of the phrase "total banger" in a speech was taken by the DJ SickKick, who converted it into a rap song. The remixed version was made by the DJ by incorporating funk beats. SickKick took to their Instagram account to share the ‘piece of music’. The post has been captioned as, “I was watching the Oscars and heard @deepikapadukone’s incredible speech and got really inspired to create this little piece of music…total banger.”
Deepika Padukone uploaded a photo with the caption "Total Banger" to the story section of her official Instagram account.
For the uninitiated, the introductory speech given by Deepika Padukone addressing RRR’s Naatu Naatu was- “An irresistibly catchy chorus, electrifying beats and killer dance moves to match have made this song a global sensation. It plays during a pivotal scene in ‘RRR’, a movie about the friendship between real-life Indian revolutionaries Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. In addition to being sung in Telugu and illustrating the film’s anti-colonialist themes, it’s also a total banger!”
Deepika further said, “It’s earned millions of views on Youtube and Tik Tok. Has audiences dancing in movie theatres all around the world and is also the first song ever from Indian production to be nominated for an Oscar. Do you know Naatu? Because if you don’t you’re about to. From the film RRR this is Naatu Naatu.”
