In the movie Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa which was to star Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role, Deepak Tijori recalls rejecting the director Kundan Shah's offer to feature. In an interview, he also said that he had asked the director to change the ending of the movie, and he praised the director for being open to his ideas.

Deepak admitted to Bollywood Hungama that he was quite certain he didn't want to make the film. Shah Rukh, Kundan, Aziz Mirza, and Saeed Mirza were all members of the same clan at the time. Just like Vikram Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt, and Rahul Roy, he belonged to a clan. The actor said it was a danger zone when he learned that Shah Rukh was ready to be introduced as a hero. He had absolutely no desire to be a part of the film.

Nonetheless, Deepak claimed that Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro had made him a huge fan of Kundan and that he was eager to collaborate with him. He showed his excitement when Kundan called. Although Deepak was a little afraid, he resisted giving in because Shah Rukh played a hero in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa and everyone was part of one group.

Deepak initially refused Kundan's request to read the script but eventually gave in. The actor recalled that the filmmaker was after him. About the movie's climax, in which his character "gets the girl," Deepak said that he had recommended a modification. As a result, they received numerous "gaalis." He reacted by saying that he was not asking Kundan to correct it. Deepak reflected and thanked the director for listening to his suggestions.

One of Shah Rukh's first movies, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa was released just two years after he made his screen debut in 1992. The film featured Suchitra Krishnamoorthi as the female lead.
