Death and Other Details is a 'whodunnit' series that is set to premiere on Hulu this month. Created by Mike Weiss and Heidi Cole McAdams, the show stars the likes of Violett Beane and Mandy Patinkin.
Death and Other Details is a ten-episode ‘whodunnit’ that is created by The Mentalist’s Mike Weiss and The 100’s Heidi Cole McAdams, while boasting of directors like Marc Webb and David Petrarca. The series is set to drop with the first two episodes on Hulu on January 16, 2024, before dropping weekly till March.
The show dropped its trailer on January 4, 2024. It reminds one of the Christie-inspired stellar murder mystery Death on the Nile. Though the premise is similar, a closed ‘boat’ mystery, the show explores the mystery in great detail, offering often a humorous touch that was sorely lacking in the Christie-adaptation.
Death and Other Details centers around one of the suspects of the story, instead of the usual detective or any other ‘reliable narrator.’ However, after masterpieces like The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, one takes any Agatha Christie adaptations or inspirations with a pinch of salt.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, creators Mike Weiss and Cole McAdams revealed how much they adore the mystery sleuth writer’s works, “We love Agatha Christie novels. We’ve read everything she’s ever written. We wanted to capture the atmosphere of those works and rag her style into our contemporary world.”
The film’s trailer offers a basic insight into our impulsive protagonist’s tale, in which she becomes the prime suspect of a murder mystery and must work with a detective she detests, Rufus Cotesworth, to prove her innocence. It shows how she prefers playing the truant by punishing the deserving, but instead falls into the murderer’s trap.
Now, the brilliant and restless Imogene Scott, essayed by Violett Beane, must maintain her love affair with the mysterious character essayed by the beloved Rahul Kohli of The Haunting of Bly Manor, in an unnamed role, while trying to prove her innocence to a kind but ruthless detective, portrayed by the iconic Mandy Patinkin, lest her conviction by the arriving Interpol will be far more severe.
