Why Was Thor Crying?

Every running joke in Deadpool & Wolverine has managed to land regardless of the impact. The movie, starring the god of sarcasm, Ryan Reynolds, alongside Hugh Jackman, who plays a completely opposite character, is now in theatres. And fans are having a great time watching it on the big screen. While it has left us with many questions regarding its future, the future of the MCU, its connection to upcoming films including Avengers: Secret Wars and the many cameos in the film, one of the biggest questions was hidden in those very gags, and we still do not have an answer. The question is, why was Chris Hemsworth's Thor crying? If you haven't seen the film, head back, because we’re talking SPOILERS. Director Shawn Levy has now unfolded the mystery, or maybe not.

Why Was Thor Crying?

For the uninitiated, after Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson is taken to the TVA office directly from his birthday party, we see him meet Mr. Paradox, played by Matthew Macfadyen, who tells him about his greater purpose and how he can join the sacred timeline, leaving his universe to serve it. Right before telling him that his universe is dying and that his friends will cease to exist, he shows him the OG Avengers and their bravery in the Infinity Saga to lure him. But wait, what is that scene with Thor exactly?

While playing a montage of past events, the operator at TVA adds an event from the possible future, an alternate reality, or even an imagination that may never happen. The scene includes Thor and Deadpool together. Now, that is not even surprising in light of what happens next. We see Deadpool fallen on the ground in Thor's arms, and the God of Thunder is crying. Everyone has been curious to know what that was about. Shawn Levy, in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, said that even he doesn't know.

"I have to be honest with you, we really set out to make a movie that was not a setup for another movie or a sequel to anything. Kevin [Feige] never insisted that we service some story beyond," Levy said. "I've been asked, for instance, why is Thor crying. The answer being: I don't f---ing know. No one does, but I'd sure love to be the guy who helps find out why."

Shawn Levy on the Future

Shawn Levy was also vocal about whether he knew anything about the future. Considering Earth-10005 is safe, Logan has reunited with X-23, played by Dafne Keen, and Deadpool is still the same Merc with the Mouth, there will likely be more of this universe in the future. “As for what's beyond, I genuinely don't know. I genuinely hope and intend to be a part of telling those stories. We never once were asked to service a broader storyline or phase. To this day, I couldn't tell you what phase our movie is in. Is it like 14? I sincerely couldn't tell you."
