The MCU calendar has now changed completely, with only Deadpool 3 left in 2024. Read on...
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is probably witnessing one of the busiest days in a very long time. The studio is in the news for the release of The Marvels dropping the season finale of Loki season 2, and also for the wild shuffle in the calendar that it has faced today. With Hollywood moving back on sets after the end of strikes, it looks like Kevin Feige woke up and chose shuffling. Deadpool 3 is pushed, and so is Captain America: Brave New World. Read on.
The calendar went for a toss the moment Hollywood strikes were announced and things were brought to a standstill. Deadpool 3 was mid-way through production, Captain America 4 was almost done filming, and the rest of the projects were in the early stages of development. But to our collective surprise, Marvel bosses have decided to push the Anthony Mackie starrer almost a year ahead and release Ryan Reynolds' MCU debut next year itself.
Below is a complete list of films that have been affected by the shuffle. A guide that includes the old dates, the new ones, and more.
Deadpool 3 (July 26, 2024)
Deadpool 3 technically marks Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s debut in the MCU. Being shaped by Shawn Levy, the movie is the top priority for the studio, as per reports. But it has now been released two months later than last announced, as it is vacating its May 3, 2024, release date and taking over Captain America: Brave New World’s July 26, 2024, release date. This means that the Anthony Mackie-starrer will now be pushed even further. Bonus observation: Deadpool 3 is currently the only Marvel movie that will release in 2024 as of yet.
Captain America: Brave New World (February 14, 2025)
Anthony Mackie is all set to enter the main timeline as the Cap, and his film will be set in the post Eternals world as we have already heard. The movie has been in production for a long time, but it turns out it will not be released on July 26, 2024, anymore. Brave New World now kickstarts in 2025 as it releases on February 14, 2025. The film is being helmed by Julius Onah.
Blade (November 7, 2025)
The chaos at Blade has already dominated the headlines. Reports don’t really suggest a smooth ride with this one in production. It isn’t a surprise that the studio decided to push it by almost 10 months. The Mahershala Ali starrer will now be released on November 7, 2025, and not February 14, 2025.
Fantastic Four Reboot (May 2, 2025)
All the Marvel Cinematic Universe projects on one side, and the fan frenzy around Fantastic Four Reboot on the other. This is probably the most anticipated project after Avengers: Secret Wars in the lineup, and we are already keen on knowing who plays what. But it turns out it now has a new release date, which is May 2, 2025. The movie is being directed by Matt Shakman.
Thunderbolts (July 25, 2025)
One of the most experimental projects of them all, Thunderbolts, will introduce MCU fans to a new era of superhero culture in the Marvel comics. Led by Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, it also stars David Harbour and an ensemble cast. The movie, which was set for a December 20, 2024 release, will now be released on July 25, 2025.
The delays are chaotic and very interesting, too. But if you look at the larger picture, it might also mean that this could cause delays in the release of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars too. The films are, as of now, set for a May 1, 2026, and May 7, 2027 release, respectively. Only time will tell. Till then, stay tuned to OTTplay for more.
