Ryan Reynolds’ fast-talking, blade-swinging, gun-shooting role as Wade Wilson/Deadpool is a fan favourite around the world. The latest buzz about Deadpool 3 is that Shawn Levy is in talks to direct the movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Levy is in talks to helm the third Deadpool movie, making it a third time collaborating with Reynolds. The duo previously worked together on 20th Century’s hit Free Guy and the sci-fi adventure movie The Adam Project, which has just been released on Netflix.

A third movie with the Merc with a Mouth in the lead was confirmed by Marvel, who now holds the rights to the character along with other X-Men heroes. The project has also been confirmed to be an R-rated film, just like the previous two movies.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the first two Deadpool movies, are penning the script for the third movie. Bob’s Burgers fame Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin had previously worked on the script for Deadpool 3.

Levy, who has also helmed a few episodes of Stranger Things, has never previously directed an R-Rated movie. While Free Guy went on to be a box office hit, collecting over $300 million, The Adam Project is also receiving mixed to positive reviews.

"Levy's works are high on emotions, but it's a perfect amalgamation of action and comedy. Although all three aspects are present in The Adam Project, it lacks the punch it was supposed to have," reads OTTPlay’s review of The Adam Project.

Though Marvel has now acquired the rights to the fan-favourite superhero film, an official release date for Deadpool 3 is yet to be announced.
