The comic characters are a group of six advanced robots named after the different metals they are composed of namely, gold, iron, lead, mercury, tin and platinum.
DC’s Metal Men are the latest comic book heroes to have their turn at headlining a movie. It was announced that a film based on the superheroes will be developed, helmed by the makers of animated classics such as Aladdin and The Little Mermaid.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming animated film will be developed by Ron Clements, John Musker and Celeste Ballard. The former two are well-known animators who have worked on Disney classics such as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, Moana, The Princess and the Frog and Treasure Planet. Ballard had served as a writer on the film Space Jam: A New Legacy.
The Warner Animation Group film will be executive produced by Craig Peck.

The Metal Men film is based on the DC comic book characters created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru, who made their first appearance in the early 1960s. The titular heroes are highly advanced robots created by a scientist, Dr Will Magnus. Each of them derives their name based on the metal they are composed of namely gold, iron, lead, mercury, tin and platinum. Their long-running storylines involved the group going on adventures ranging from acting as hitmen, to aiding other heroes in battle.

The upcoming DC film will not be the first time the heroes have made an appearance on the silver screen. They had previously been a part of several animated DC TV shows and films, although in supporting roles. Attempts to develop a live-action film centred around the metal men had previously been called off.
