As per reports DC's Batgirl movie will be a HBO Max Original, following the lead of Zack Snyder's Justice League.
DC’s Batgirl will reportedly directly release on HBO Max.
For long, there have been speculations about Warner Bros.’ Batgirl movie. Various writers and directors were speculated as part of the project. Joss Whedon was the most notable writer who quit the project in 2018, making way for Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson. On May 19, Bad Boy for Life director-duo, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, were roped in to helm the project, produced by Cruella’s Kristin Burr.
Introduced in DC’s comics for the first time in 1961, Batgirl was originally Betty Kane’s alter-ego. She was later reintroduced as Barbara (played by Yvonne Craig), the daughter of Gotham City Commissioner Jim Gordon, in Adam West’s Batman series. Even though the character has not appeared in any live-action movie since Batman and Robin, Batgirl has always been a fan favourite.
According to THR, DC’s Batgirl movie is “being planned as a movie for HBO Max.” With Zack Synder’s Justice League becoming HBO Max’s biggest release, it looks like perhaps Warner Bros. is looking to cash in this success by curating more originals exclusively for the streaming platform.
Spilling some beans, the film’s producer, Kristin Burr, referred to Batgirl as being “part of the DC universe,” though it is currently uncertain if Batgirl will be set in the DC Extended Universe, the DCEU’s Earth-2 such as Matt Reeves’ Batman, or stand completely on its own.
