Warner Bros' upcoming DCEU Blue Beetle solo movie will reportedly skip a theatrical release.
Warner Bros and DC Films' live-action movie Blue Beetle about a Latinx superhero will reportedly release on HBO Max. DC fans are used to experiencing live-action films for decades now. However, it is only recently that heroes other than Batman or Superman have been given an opportunity to lead their own solo films. The strategy played by the DC Extended Universe had brought dozens of movies featuring a wide range of characters into development. This helped characters like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Harley Quinn become significant stars of the DC Universe.
Among the recent DC comic characters lined in to receive a solo movie is Jamie Reyes a.k.a Blue Beetle. Warner Bros and DC films announced that they have begun developing the film centred around the young Mexican-American hero in early 2021. It was announced that DCEU's first movie starring a Latino hero will be helmed by Charm City Kings director Angel Manuel Soto. Fans of Jamie Reyes are excited about this upcoming project.
As per a new report on LA Times, Warner Bros and DC Films are planning for a digital release for Blue Beetle on HBO Max. The news came as part of a rundown of HBO Max's future post the merger between Warner Bros and Discovery. The movie is one of the many mid-budget movies making its way to the streaming platform. The studio has neither confirmed this news yet nor has the release date been announced till now.
Warner Bros' entire 2021 release slot is simultaneously being released in theatres as well as on HBO Max. It is not yet known if Blue Beetle will be an exclusive HBO Max release or follow the digital plus theatrical release pattern. If Blue Beetle is to release on HBO Max, it will join Batgirl as an HBO Max exclusive release.
