Both movies have seen a surge in their box office collections with each day
Malayalam cinema might not be making the big noise as some of its counterparts such as Kannada and Tamil have in recent times, but that’s not to say the industry’s films are going unnoticed. Two of its recent releases – Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey and Kooman – have been seeing a rise in their box office collections lately.
Basil Joseph and Darshana Rajendran’s Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, a family entertainer that released on October 28, is a clear winner with the film already collecting over Rs 15 crore in 11 days. The movie, which is set to release in centres outside Kerala on November 11, is proving to be another superhit for Basil as well as its producers, who had also backed Jan-E-Man last year.
The movie, helmed by Vipin Das, revolves around the life of its protagonist Jayabharathi, essayed by Darshana. Her life has been controlled by the men around her and she hopes to find some respite after her wedding. Things turn worse when her chauvinist husband Rajesh, played by Basil, resorts to domestic violence, forcing Jayabharathi to finally take a stand when her cries for help fall on deaf ears. The comedy entertainer has received largely positive reviews, with the audience lauding the performances of its cast.
Meanwhile, director Jeethu Joseph’s investigative thriller Kooman, which has Asif Ali in the lead, has already earned Rs 3.65 crore in its first four days and is expected to cross the Rs 5 crore barrier soon. The movie has seen an increase in its revenue every day since its release.
Kooman revolves around an egotistical police constable named Giri, who decides to teach his superior a lesson for embarrassing him. Things soon turn out of hand when Giri can’t seem to control his actions and finds himself entangled in a series of murders.
Both films are expected to slow down from Friday with four Malayalam films set to hit theatres – Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Mukundan Unni Associates, Arjun Ashokan’s Thattassery Koottam, Shane Nigam’s Bermuda and Antony Varghese’s Aanaparambile World Cup.
