Daredevil Musthafa: Poornachandra Tejaswi’s story is coming to TV now

When Daredevil Musthafa came out earlier this year, it was widely spoken about for being an effective adaptation of noted writer Poornachandra Tejaswi’s short story, which had been brought to the big screen by a group of more than 60 ardent lovers of the author’s works. Directed by newbie Shashank Soghal, the film had a decent run at the box office and was widely lauded for its content, which was very relevant given the divisive atmosphere the country is in today.

Daredevil Musthafa is set in the fictional town of Abachuru, where the PU college admits its first-ever non-Hindu student, Jamal Abdul Musthafa Hussain. In a predominantly Hindu society, this, of course, ruffles a few feathers, especially since Abachuru has a history of Hindu-Muslim conflict that is heightened during the Ganesha festivities. How Musthafa overcomes prejudices and, in the process, manages to become everyone’s darling forms the crux of the narrative. The underlying message of communal harmony was widely appreciated, as also the performances of the film’s largely newcomer cast, including Shishir Baikady, Aditya Ashree, Abhay, Supreeth Bharadwaj, Aashith, Srivatsa, Prerana, among others. Released in theatres on May 19, Daredevil Musthafa had a decent box office outing, although not outstanding, and came on OTT within a month of its theatrical release. During its theatrical run, the film was awarded tax-free status by the government. And now, months after it’s been on Amazon Prime Video, Daredevil Musthafa is finally coming to TV. The film will get its television premiere on Star Suvarna on September 17 at 6 pm. So, if you have not seen the film and been transported to the world of Abachuru, this is your chance to watch it.
