In an exciting new update for fans awaiting the live action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender the Fire Nation has found its lord in the form of Daniel Dae Kim. The Lost actor is set to portray the role of Fire Lord Ozai in the upcoming Netflix series.
The series is a live action adaptation of the widely popular Nickelodeon animated show of the same name, which ran for three seasons. The hit show spawned a media franchise including comic books, video games, a novel series and several silver screen spin offs.
Avatar: The Last Airbender follows the story of a world where people, known as benders, are divided into different nations based on their ability to manipulate any one of the four elements. An Avatar, a person who can control all the four elements, is charged with the duty of keeping the peace between the nations.
Kim will play Ozai, known for his tyrannical ruling of the Fire Nation and his ambition to bring all other nations under his rule.

The Netflix adaptation would not be the first time the Nickelodeon series has had a live action remake. In 2010 M. Night Shyamalan had adapted its first season into a film titled The Last Airbender. The film was universally panned by fans and critics alike. In addition to criticisms over its story and acting, the film was also accused of whitewashing by casting caucasian actors in roles meant for Asian actors.
The upcoming Netflix series will have Albert Kim as its showrunner, executive producer and writer. A release date for the series has not been announced.
