Shatrughan Sinha wanted daughter Sonakshi Sinha to join the police force
Sonakshi Sinha has marked her OTT debut in the avatar of a feisty cop, who is hot on the heels of a serial killer. Helmed by acclaimed filmmaker duo Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, Amazon Prime Video’s crime-mystery new thriller web series Dahaad sees Sonakshi in a pivotal role, alongside Vijay Varma and Gulshan Devaiah. The Dabangg actress recently revealed that her father, veteran actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha, is very happy to finally see his daughter play a police officer.
Directed by Reema and Ruchika Oberoi, the story of Dahaad - produced by Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby Films - is set in a remote village of Rajasthan. It is said to be the first Indian web series to premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival. The series also features Sohum Shah, Manyuu Doshi, Yogi Singha, Sanghmitra Hitaishi, Ratnabali Bhattacharjee, Nirmal Chiraniyan, Vijay Kumar Dogra, Abhishek Bhalerao and Waris Ahmed Zaidi.

Speaking in an interview with ANI recently, Sonakshi said, “Papa bohot khush hai. When I was a child, Papa used to tell his friends that ‘my daughter would be a police officer’. So, after donning the uniform, I sent him the first photo and told Papa, ‘I have fulfilled your dreams’. He is very keen to watch the show.” To prepare for her character in Dahaad that actress - who was also part of Rowdy Rathore in 2012 - had taken up classes in bike riding, judo and action stunts.
“I was looking for a powerful character for a long time. It’s a very interesting character. There are fun elements too. I have played such an important character after a long long time. Abhi toh dil dahaad dahaad kar raha hai... Dil dhadak raha hai par excitement mein. The show marks my debut on the OTT platform as well. For the first time, the audience is watching me in a long format series.”
