Produced under the banner of Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, Dabba Cartel is all set to release on Netflix.
In September 2021, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's production company Excel Entertainment joined hands with Netflix India for a multi-series collaboration. One of their projects, titled Dabba Cartel, has been in pre-production for quite some time now. The show, which is directed by Hitesh Bhatia, was announced today with the first look at the leading actors, including Shabana Azmi, Jyotika, Sai Tamhankar, and Gajraj Rao, among others.
Sharing the announcement video on their social media accounts, Netflix India wrote: "Now this is one Dabba you definitely don’t wanna forget 👀 Dabba Cartel is coming soon, only on Netflix!"
The video starts with a buffet of food on a table and we see a lot of delicacies, but at the one end of the table comes drugs. The video indicated that a bunch of people which includes the characters of Shabana Azmi, Shalini Pandey, and Anjali Anand run a drug-distributing business through a tiffin delivery business in the Thane area of Mumbai. They must navigate the law and conflicts to keep their secrets safe.
The video also gives glimpses of Gajraj Rao, Jyotike, and Sai Tamhankar, who seems to be playing a cop in the show. Dabba Cartel looks interesting with all the intrigue, twists, and turns that the show promises to offer.
The official synopsis of 'Dabba Cartel' reads, "A series of unusual circumstances leads five ordinary women from Thane down a rabbit hole of adventures that sees them begin distributing drugs through a 'dabba' delivery business. As their secret cartel expands, they must navigate treacherous alliances, the law, and their own inner conflicts – risking everything they hold dear."
The show was earlier set to be directed by Shonali Bose. However, according to a recent announcement, it is being directed by Hitesh Bhatia. The release date of the show is still under wraps. The show marks Excel Entertainment’s second association with Netflix after their 2022 rom-com series, Eternally Confused And Eager For Love.
