It has been reported that Pathikrit Basu is directing a new Bengali film based on chess. It will tell the story of a child who aspired to become a chess player. His struggle, along with the story of his mother and his coach, will also be shown in the film. Now the production house confirmed the news. The film Dabaru will show a slice of Indian grandmaster Surya Sekhar Ganguly’s life.
The film, a biopic of Surya Sekhar, is produced by Windows Production House and presented by Nandita Roy and Sanjay Agarwal. The production house released the first poster and wrote, “It is the story of a Bengali boy hailing from a North Kolkata para and going to the world stage despite all hurdles. Pathikrit Basu's next film Dabaru is inspired by the colorful life of Surya Sekhar Ganguly.”
The film tells the story of a child who dreams of playing chess on the world stage. It tells about the fulfillment of his dream.
Rituparna Sengupta will play the boy's mother, her next venture with Windows after Belasuru. Koushik Sen will play the coach. Dipankar Dey, Chiranjit Chakraborty, Sankar Chakraborty, and Biswanath Basu will play other roles.
The film's screenplay is written by Aritra Banerjee and dialogue is written by Arpan Gupta. The film is to be released this winter. The first poster shows a chess board and a kid's hand.
