As the anthology Modern Love Mumbai the first of Amazon Prime Video's 40 recently announced originals, premiered on May 13, has released, everyone’s attention is on it. Modern Love Mumbai is an adaption of the original American version, inspired by New York Times columns.
This anthology has six refreshingly honest stories from the city of dreams, told by six renowned directors. One of the episodes in the series is Cutting Chai directed by Nupur Asthana. It is one of the stories that talks about the everyday married life of a female who has lost her sight and her dreams. Talking about the story, Nupur said in her statement, “While projecting her dissatisfactions onto her partner and her choices, realizes that all the answers lie within her. I think this movie is an ode to all the lovers who are trying to figure out who they are really in this rapidly changing world and can they do it while keeping their loved ones close.”
The director said that somehow this storyline is very close to her heart and that she thoroughly loved creating this episode. She was also relieved that the episodes' leads, Arshad and Chitrangada, were on the same page with her about the story.
Meanwhile, Modern Love Mumbai tells six individual love stories that cross all barriers and preconceptions of caste, religion, age, and gender, and offer a heart-wrenching depiction of genuine love. Apart from Nupur Asthana, Hansal Mehta, Vishal Bhardwaj, Shonali Bose, Dhruv Sehgal, and Alankrita Shrivastava are among the series' directors.
