Corona Papers had Priyadarshan teaming up with a lot of young stars, but this actor’s surprise cameo was unexpected
Director Priyadarshan had been vocal about how working with actors that he hadn’t teamed up with, in his latest release Corona Papers, had a positive impact on him and his filmmaking. The film, which is set to drop on Disney+ Hotstar on May 5, had him collaborating with a bunch of young actors including Shane Nigam, Shine Tom Chacko, Jean Paul Lal and Gayathrie Shankar.
There was also another leading Malayalam actor-director, who has always longed to work with the veteran filmmaker, who got that opportunity with the crime thriller. It’s none other than Vineeth Sreenivasan.
The actor, who is seen in a cameo in the movie, is introduced in the beginning of the film and what happens to his characters sets off a chain of events that have a huge impact on its pivotal characters. Vineeth had previously worked with Priyadarshan’s movie, albeit as a singer – rendering the song Kannil Ente in Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham.
Vineeth had also helmed Hridayam last year, which had Kalyani Priyadarshan as one of the female leads. While Corona Papers had Vineeth only in a special appearance, it is also a special movie for the actor.
Priyadarshan too, in an earlier interview with OTTplay, said that he also felt young working with the new bunch of actors and sharing ideas with them. “My film will look different when new people are part of it; else my thought process and my way of conceiving the shots would feel similar. That’s why I decided to cast young talent,” the director said.
Apart from the young actors, Corona Papers also has Siddique in a pivotal role. The movie revolves around a series of incidents that happen after a police revolver gets stolen and is subsequently used for a robbery and homicide. The film is inspired from Akira Kurosawa’s Stray Dog.
