Shane Nigam plays a cop in Corona Papers, which is helmed by Priyadarshan
Veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan’s latest thriller Corona Papers, which hit theatres last month, is gearing up for an OTT release. The movie, which was shot in 40 days, also marked the filmmaker’s comeback production venture after the award-winning Kanchivaram.
Corona Papers, which is also scripted by Priyadarshan, has Shane Nigam, Siddique, Shine Tom Chacko, Jean Paul Lal, Gayathrie Shankar and Sandhya Shetty in pivotal roles. The film also marked the first that Priyadarshan teamed up with all of these actors, except for Siddique who plays a pivotal role in the movie.
What is Corona Papers about?
The movie, which is set during the pandemic, is inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s Stray Dog and revolves around a rookie police officer who loses his gun while travelling on a public bus. The gun, which changes hands multiple times, is used for a robbery that also results in a homicide. How the cops try to track down the robbers, who also fail to stick to their fool-proof plan, form the plot of the movie, in which all characters are gray.
While Shane plays the rookie cop, Siddique, Jean Paul Lal and Vijilesh essay the robbers, who make plans to escape the current situation for a better life, before things go awry. Sandhya Shetty, who had starred in the MX Player series Dharavi Bank, plays the film’s main antagonist. Gayathrie, who was last seen in Nna Thaan Case Kodu in Malayalam, portrays the role of a journalist in the movie.
On working with the young team, in an earlier interview with us, Priyadarshan said, “Shooting with them also made me feel very young. I was surprised because something different was happening on the sets; we were sitting and talking about things that were of mutual interest and the shoot just carried on as if it was a picnic,” he explains.
When and where to watch Corona Papers?
Corona Papers will begin streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from May 5. The OTT platform has also bagged the rights for Vijayaraghavan’s Pookkaalam, which is also expected to drop on the streaming platform in May.
